Did you know... 50 years ago, Oryx were released on White Sands Missile Range?! The Oryx are native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa. It was all part of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish's desire to establish an exotic animal population in an area where there were few species of big game. The animal often makes its way to this side of the mountain, and this one was most recently spotted in Achenbach Canyon (Organ Mountains).
