HISTORY: #OnThisDay: Nov. 6, 1944 the 1st Infantry Division entered the U.S. Army's longest single battle ever fought; the Battle of Hurtgen Forest. The Big Red One entered the battle on the border of Germany and Belgium during WWII and it was the longest battle fought on German soil.
